Featuring Keynote speaker, Camilla Taylor of Lambda Legal! Camilla is a great addition to our Conference faculty as we continue to discuss Minnesota’s Marriage Amendment. Camilla was lead counsel for the Iowa marriage litigation, Varnum v. Brien. We are excited for Camilla to join us on January 28th. The breakout sessions this year will continue to follow our approach in recent years. We will have three subject-matter tracks: LGBT-law track, substantive law track, and small firm/professional development track. More details about each individual session will be forthcoming.

MLBA has invited the producers of Prop 8 Films to discuss some of the key advertising campaigns from the Prop 8 efforts - for and against the Proposition. Join us for an informative and impactful primer on what can be expected as we approach the vote on the November 8th, 2012 regarding Minnesota’s proposed amendment to change the constitution. Prop 8 Films was created on the heels of the historic passage of Proposition 8 in California. Prop 8 uses the power of film to create compelling documentary films that champion social justice issues which educate, inform, and inspire a wide audience throughout the world. Annual Membership Awards

In an email a few months ago, we unveiled our MLBA Member awards. The Awards are nomination based and nominations are due January 2, 2012 to davidahlvers@gmail.com. Please nominate MLBA Members you find worthy of the recognition, and we accept self-nominations.

MLBA Equality and Justice Award

The MLBA Equality and Justice Award recognizes an MLBA attorney-member who has made significant contributions to advance equality and justice in the legal profession and the LGBT community through his or her practice and community involvement. The award is given at the MLBA’s Annual Conference, held in January each year. Nominations for the award require a resume/CV and a letter of recommendation. Award winners will receive a small cash stipend. The MLBA Student Leadership Award recognizes students attending a Minnesota law school who are proven leaders. Award recipients show strong ability and interest in becoming leaders within Minnesota’s LGBT legal community. Further, recipients exemplify integrity and professionalism. The award is given at the MLBA’s Annual Conference, held in January each year. Nominations for the award require a resume/CV and a letter of recommendation. Award winners will receive a small cash stipend.
