MLBA Offering Scholarships to Law Students for Attend Creating Change Conference

Have you heard about The National Conference on LGBT Equality: Creating Change?

Creating Change is the nation's pre-eminent political, leadership and skills-building conference for the LGBT social justice movement. The 23rd annual conference is coming to Minneapolis on February 2-6, 2011. You can learn more about the conference here: http://www.creatingchange.org/.

Minnesota Lavender Bar Association (MLBA) is interested in helping law students from Minnesota’s four law schools attend the conference. If you are interested in a scholarship from MLBA to attend, please click here (https://spreadsheets0.google.com/) and complete the short questionnaire by Friday, November 5.

Please also take advantage, ASAP, of the scholarships and subsidized registration rates offered by NGLTF. To apply for a NGLTF scholarship or subsidized registration rate go to http://www.creatingchange.org/ and choose “scholarships and subsidized registrations” in the registration drop-down menu.

The Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice, the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota, and the Minneapolis Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation invite MLBA members to attend a community conference devoted to providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of the new federal hate crimes law. Please join us for a FREE 2 hour, eliminating bias CLE presented by Training To Serve, a Twin Cities non-profit that trains professionals to better serve older LGBT clients. This highly participatory training will examine the unique barriers that aging lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals face when attempting access legal services, and will emphasize practical skills for expanding your capacity to represent LGBT clients. Space is limited for this event; please RSVP by emailing Micah Ludeke at MLudeke01@hamlineuniversity.edu. Please write “LGBT Elder Law CLE” in the subject line. This event is free of charge, but pre-registration is required. ACLU-MN to Award Tim Branson the Earl Larson Award

ACLU-MN invites MLBA members to honor Tim Branson as the Outstanding Civil Libertarian of the Year with its Earl Larson Award on Tuesday, November 9th at the Minneapolis Club. Tim Branson was the lead, volunteer attorney in Doe, et al. v. Ventura, which successfully struck down Minnesota’s sodomy laws in 2001, two years prior to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Lawrence v. Texas. Minnesota Lavender Bar Association was the organizational plaintiff in Doe, et al. v. Ventura.
