MLBA News

Save the date:  Regional Lavender Law,
Saturday, January 26, 2008!

Planning is underway for the 2008 Regional Lavender Law conference, to take place Saturday, January 26, 2008 at William Mitchell College of Law!  This is an excellent opportunity for education as well as touching base with your colleagues who work with the GLBT community.  As always, we welcome attorneys AND law students to take part!  Stay tuned for updates on session information and program schedules.

National Lavender Law heard YOUR input!

During the National lavender Law conference in Chicago on September 6-8, the National Lesbian and Gay Law Association (NLGLA) hosted a lunch to gather YOUR thoughts and ideas about the organization and its programs.

We are pleased to report that members of MLBA were well represented at this gathering! NLGA has hired RealChange Partners, a nationally recognized consultation firm to organize and implement a strategic planning process. As part of that process, members of MLBA sat down for lunch with members of similarly sized affiliates throughout the country, including Seattle and Chicago, and provided input on how our affiliate members would like to see NLGA grow and improve in the future.

During this lunch, affiliate members raised concerns about the need to promote racial diversity within NLGLA, create improved communication capacities between NLGA and its regional affiliates, and among regional affiliates; and generate new programming that directly impacts members at the local level. As the strategic planning process continues, MLBA's delegate to NLGLA will monitor the strategic planning progress and provide input on behalf of MLBA. If you have ideas, thoughts, or concerns that you want NLGLA to hear, please contact Jenny by sending email to jennyryan@gmail.com or call (651) 216-0157.

“Advertising” opportunities in the MLBA newsletter!

Looking for a chance to get word out to MLBA members and friends?  At its June meeting, the MLBA Board approved an "advertising” policy for use on a trial (six-month) basis.  For now, the policy contemplates free announcements of such things as job openings, available office space, and other law-related matters other than simple advertisements of services.  This opportunity is available to MLBA members only.  For more information, click here:  http://www.mnlavbar.org/membership.htm.
