MLBA member attorney on MPR October 3, to discuss estate planning for same-sex couples

MLBA member Ann Viitala, an attorney in Minneapolis, will be featured on Minnesota Public Radio on Wednesday, October 3. She will be interviewed by MPR reporter Chris Farrell regarding financial and legal planning for domestic partners. MLBA is pleased to announce that the planning for Regional Lavender Law is well underway, and that a plenary session has been tentatively scheduled that will focus on competing proposals to change the way Minnesota (s)elects its judges. This panel is currently set to feature presentations by Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Barry Anderson and MSBA President Brian Melendez offering different perspectives on how to address issues arising out of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Republican Party of Minnesota v. TWO FULL-TIME TENURE-TRACK UNDERGRADUATE POSITIONS  AT HAMLINE UNIVERSITY

 

Hamline University seeks two full-time tenure-track undergraduate Legal Studies faculty members to teach in an ABA-approved program within the College of Liberal Arts beginning in the fall of 2008.  The successful candidates will have a J.D. from an ABA-approved law school, a license to practice law, experience working with paralegals, and demonstrated legal research and writing experience. Prior teaching and law review or similar experience preferred.

 

The persons chosen to fill these positions will have the ability to teach arrange of legal studies courses, and will participate regularly in the college's intellectual life. In particular, the Legal Studies Department seeks candidates able to teach some or all of the following courses: introductory and capstone legal research and writing, introductory legal studies, transactional law such as bankruptcy and business organizations. In addition, the Department seeks someone to direct our nationally competitive mock trial program.

 

These tenure-track, assistant professorships include a normal teaching load of six courses per year, which is determined in consultation with the departmental chair. The successful candidates will be expected to have an active scholarly or research agenda and contribute to the college, university and profession through their service. The successful applicants are expected to be teacher-scholars who can move the program forward and contribution to the evolution of the university as a learner-centered institution. Candidates must have a commitment to the idea of a broad liberal arts and interdisciplinary education, collaborative research with students, supervision of internships or experiential learning, and the ability to integrate technology in courses. Hamline seeks candidates with demonstrated knowledge, competencies and experience in teaching, advising, and mentoring students from culturally diverse backgrounds. Candidates must provide evidence of a commitment to promote and enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion in support of academic excellence.  All undergraduate faculty at Hamline advise students, participate in general education programs such as the First-Year Seminar, and serve on college and university committees or fulfill other service assignments.
