MLBA returns to Twin Cities Pride: June 28-29!

After taking a few years off, MLBA will once again have a booth at Twin Cities Pride, on Saturday, June 28 and Sunday, June 29 in Loring Park near downtown Minneapolis! MLBA is proud of its accomplishments within the Minnesota legal community and hopes YOU could be a part of getting the word out to lawyers, law students, and the general GLBT population. This year, MLBA is also partnering with Lambda Legal Defense & Education Fund to share volunteers for Pride. We are looking for people who would be willing to staff the tent for two-hour shifts (not during the Parade on Sunday) and are happy to work around volunteers’ schedules as much as possible. Can you help? Please contact Jenny Ryan at jennyryan@gmail.com for more information or to stake your claim to a time slot!

MSBA votes to create “unmarried-couples” task force

On April 24, the Minnesota State Bar Association Assembly unanimously voted to authorize the creation of a task force to examine the current legal rights (or lack thereof) available to unmarried couples, including same-sex couples, in order to recommend reform to state laws to extend meaningful legal protections to them. MLBA was the lead organizer of the effort, and enlisted the support of ten other bar committees, sections, and affiliated organizations.  We are proud that the MSBA took this step. “Advertising” opportunities in the MLBA newsletter!

Looking for a chance to get word out to MLBA members and friends? At its June meeting, the MLBA Board approved an advertising” policy for use on a trial (six-month) basis. For now, the policy contemplates free announcements of such things as job openings, available office space, and other law-related matters other than simple advertisements of services. This opportunity is available to MLBA members only. For more information, click here: http://www.mnlavbar.org/membership.htm
